27 Grand!

We've totted up the money raised on June 11th during Nottingham's biggest-ever fund raising music festival and we are happy to announce the total amount of money raised by the people of Nottingham was;

£27,200

This means that we not only raised a fair whack for the Lord Mayor's Earthquake Appeal, but we also hit our target to raise enough money to build a shelter in Cambodia for kids rescued from the sex tourism trade.

"We need to say a massive thank you to everyone who made this happen: all the venue managers, promoters, delegates, volunteers, sound engineers, artists and of course all the people who bought a wristband," says Ash Dilks, Drop '06 organiser. "There are hundreds of people that worked behind the scenes for this years festival, and we'd like to thank them all. Twenty seven grand is a huge amount of money, and it's going to be helping a lot of people."

We've already been in touch with our friends at the Family Care Foundation and passed on the good news, and they're absolutely champing at the bit to start work on the shelter - and it goes without saying that we'll be bringing you updates on the shelter you helped to build as and when we recieve them.

In other news...

 * An official Drop In The Ocean DVD is currently in the post-production stage, containing a full review of the day and performances from a huge range of local bands. You'll be able to buy it from this website in the very near future.

* All photos taken on the day by Drop's team of volunteer photographers have now been collected in and will be up on the site later this afternoon...

* The Drop organisers are having a serious think about visiting Cambodia in the near future out of their own pockets to visit our shelter during or after its construction, and if we do we'll be throwing out an open invitation to anyone who wants to join us.

Drop In The Ocean '06 demonstrated beyond doubt that Nottingham has an amazing music scene, and proved once again that when we all come together we can pull off something amazing. We'll definately be back next year, having learned lessons from this year's event, and will come back harder than ever before...
